We’re Proudly Supporting the Mission of One of Our Favorite Organizations During the Indy 500

Memorial Day: a holiday that for many Americans signals the beginning of summer, with a long weekend to enjoy cookouts and time with family and friends. And, for racing fans, the weekend is also the setting for one of the premier motorsport events in the world — The 106^th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. Over the course of three to four hours, 33 drivers will race 500 miles for the chance to be the champion of “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Of course, there’s a much deeper and more somber reason we honor Memorial Day. It is a day set aside to pause and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have died defending our country and our freedoms. And, as we remember those who are no longer with us, it’s also important to remember those who are. That’s why ABC Supply is especially proud to sponsor the No. 11 Chevrolet — driven by J.R. Hildebrand for AJ Foyt Racing — with a design that honors and raises awareness for our friends at Homes For Our Troops (HFOT).

We’ve been supporters of Homes For Our Troops since 2020, and with our 40^th anniversary year currently underway, we wanted to honor our Core Values — in particular, Give Back and American Pride — in a big way. As Homes For Our Troops invests nearly 90% of its donations directly back into its mission, it relies primarily on word-of-mouth awareness instead of paid advertising. By volunteering the design of our 2022 IndyCar, we’re helping to raise awareness for an organization we’re incredibly passionate about.

Homes For Our Troops: Building Homes, Rebuilding Lives

HFOT is an organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans to enable them to rebuild their lives. In addition to volunteering the design of our 2022 IndyCar, we’re also matching every donation made to HFOT —   up to $1 million total — from Saturday, May 21, through the end of Memorial Day weekend (Monday, May 30). ABC Supply has supported HFOT since 2020, and its work addresses a critical need. Since 9/11, over 2.5 million Americans have served our nation — and of that group, more than 1,000 have sustained severe physical injuries. These may include one or more amputations, full or partial paralysis, and severe traumatic brain injury. HFOT was founded in 2004 with a mission to not only build homes for these Veterans but also help them rebuild their lives, restoring some of the freedom and independence they sacrificed in defending our country.

More Than Home Builders

Since its inception, the organization has constructed over 330 homes. The homes are built in partnership with each Veteran, taking into consideration location and design features that need to be adapted to meet specific needs. On average, over 40 special adaptations are included in each home, including wider halls and doorways, automatic door openers, roll-under sinks and stovetops, pull-down shelving, roll-in showers with digital temperature control and more. The best part — these homes are built and donated to the Veterans, making it possible for them to increase their financial stability. Read more about some of the homes we’ve helped build.

The home-building work of HFOT is incredible on its own, but the organization does so much more. It also offers individual support based on a Veteran’s next steps and needs. Veterans also have access to a Veteran Action and Advisory team where they can talk through challenges and success with their peers.

And the numbers speak for themselves:

• 95% of the Veterans who have been part of the HFOT program have seen a reduction in household stress
• 90% report they’ve regained some or much of their independence
• 92% report an increase in their family’s savings
