We’re Giving Back and Helping Grant Wishes for Children With Critical Illnesses
Every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with a critical illness – and every day Make-A-Wish grants more than 15 wishes to these amazing children.
We’ve always been inspired by the incredible work this organization does. That’s why we wanted to team up with them by becoming a multimillion-dollar Make-A-Wish Champion Sponsor.
While COVID-19 has caused many disruptions over the past year, the importance of providing hope, strength and joy to families and children battling critical illnesses never stopped. We’re so proud to continue to live our Give Back Core Value and support Make-A-Wish as it grants life-changing wishes to children all over the country. Here are three of the many kids we’ve helped support so far this year.
Eden’s She-Shed
Eden is a 7-year-old sickle cell warrior. While much of her day-to-day routine is filled with doctors’ appointments and medications, she still finds ways to be joyful and creative amidst the chaos. After taking some time to think through what her wish might be, she excitedly shared that she would like to have a space of her own to craft, read, play chess, cross-stitch and make jewelry with her friends! The vision for this sweet girl’s she-shed space is as unique and special as she is and filled with all things fashion-forward, chic and sparkly!
Belle’s Dragon
Wish kid Belle is a 14-year-old with bone cancer who has always wanted her own “pet robotic dragon.” Earlier this year, her wish and imagination came to life when she was surprised with her 15-pound pet dragon at a massive 15th century style castle. The castle experience took place via virtual reality (VR) and transported Belle to a fantastical place far, far away, where she saw her dragon for the first time. When she removed the VR headset, her pet dragon was there by her side.
Blaize’s Backyard Play Structure
Four-year-old Blaize lives in a big, loving house with three generations of caring women: his mom, Kira, grandmother Donna, and his great-grandmother, Betty. “He’s a really happy little boy,” says Kira. “He always has energy.”
Unfortunately, the first few years of Blaize’s life weren’t so joyful. At only eight months old, he was
diagnosed with infant leukemia. For more than a year and a half, Blaize was in and out of treatment. His cancer reoccurred at 14 months and he had to undergo a risky bone marrow transplant surgery. Blaize’s surgery was successful, and at 18 months old, he was finally able to return to the comfort of home.
When Kira and Donna learned Blaize would qualify for a wish, they immediately thought about a play space for the backyard. “He loves the outside. This seemed like the perfect thing for him,” explains Donna. “We are just amazed at what an amazing job Make-A-Wish did. It’s so great for him.”
ABC Supply has always focused on being a company that Gives Back. And we know we couldn’t do this without the support of our customers who choose us to be their partner and materials distributor. Thank you for the continued support that allows us to grant wishes for these amazing kids.
